In this lesson, we'll wrap Section 2 by defining and being specific about the role of data warehousing and data lakes to a marketing technologist.

  • A data lake is usually a tool or service where all of a company’s data is stored.
  • Data lakes are important because most marketing tools do not persist data forever. For example, the majority of CDPs will store data by default for one month. It's important to think about data retention as a part of your stack strategy.
  • Data warehouses can rely on a CDP to collect user and event data, which is forwaded to a cloud provider alongside other marketing tools.
